Posting news straight to Twitter

Posting news straight to Twitter

Did you know you can post directly to twitter from within the CMS? Here's how to do it…

Associating Your Twitter Account

First you'll need to associate your twitter account with your CMS account, this is done within the admin area. Under the Change Password section you'll find Connect to twitter section:

If you click on the Associate CMS account with Twitter link, you get redirected to a Twitter asking you to log into your account. Once logged in, you'll see the following page asking if you want to Authorize Noisegate CMS to use your account?

Click on the blue Authorize app button and you'll get taken back to the CMS. You then need to save the changes on the admin page to complete the association:

Posting To Twitter

Now that your twitter account is associated with your CMS account, you can automatically tweet any news/blog posts you make.

This is done from the page where you add the news article. If you add a news article as normal, adding the headline and body text and setting a date (if you want the post to appear in the future). You should also now have a new option – a checkbox which says Post To Twitter:

If you check this box the news article when you save the news item, one of two things could happen:

  • If you have set the news date to today or a date in the past – the news item will be posted to twitter immediately.
  • If you have set the news date to a date in the future – the news item will be posted to twitter at 9.00am on that date.

When the post is sent to twitter, we'll take the first 118 characters of the headline and add a shortened link to the end of the tweet which takes you straight to the full news article (the shortened url is created using the Noisegate url shortener – n9m.co.uk).

Removing The Association

If you decide you no longer want your twitter account associated with your CMS account, or you want to associate a different account with it. You can remove the association though the CMS admin area. Just click the checkbox that says Remove Association and click Save:
