Common problems: e-mail

Assuming you are using an e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook and your account is configured correctly, there are two common problems:

  1. To ensure maximum security and protection against spam, every time your computer communicates with our e-mail server it must provide your POP3 login details. This process is called authentication, and you must ensure that your e-mail program is set to use authentication. For instructions on how to do this just click here
  2. Many internet service providers (the list includes Virgin, Orange and AOL) have begun to use a process called transparent proxying to force you to use their own e-mail service. If you have your own POP3 account elsewhere and are accessing it from an e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook, transparent proxying may prevent you from accessing it. The problem can be resolved by forcing your e-mail program to use an outgoing mail server port other than the usual port 25. For instructions on how to do this click here
