SEO for small businesses - practice what you preach?

I spend a lot of my time talking with small buinsesses and we nearly always get around to the subject of SEO and those Google rankings and I have lots to say about the dos and don'ts.  They say practice what you preach and I know the theory but boy, it's not easy.

Design vs Functionality

I spent a great morning at the Leamington Business EXPO hosted by Wright Hassall and NOAW today.  Rebecca Fahy of Jigsaw CCS and I ran a collaborative seminar on Design vs. Functionality.  We had a full house for the event and  could have spent much longer than our 40 mintues tackling the issues facing current small businesses in engaging their audiences in both online and offline communications.
